google.com/fzc-dmgg-rdc.Title: Control of complex systems: from dynamical
networks to intelligent control Abstract: Over the last few decades\, the
ever-increasing integration of advanced sensing and actuation functionalit
ies into industrial plants and networks has led to a significant increase
in their complexity from both an architectural and an operational point of
view. In fact\, modern networks have become dynamical systems defined by
the interaction of multiple complex sub-systems\, posing significant chall
enges to their design and control due to their distributed and interconnec
ted nature. To compensate for this rise in complexity\, thanks to the broa
d availability of measurements and process data collected by modern contro
l architectures\, intelligent and data-driven control systems have been pr
oposed to cope with the limitations of the available plant models by lever
aging on recent machine learning results. In this direction\, the seminar
will focus on two main aspects: first\, some recent results related to non
-cooperative flow control over heterogeneous dynamical networks will be di
scussed\; then\, some data-driven solutions to support and enhance the ana
lysis and control of complex systems will be presented. A brief discussion
on future research directions and additional applications will conclude t
he talk.  Short bio: Alessandro Giuseppi received from the University of R
ome “La Sapienza” his M.Sc. degree in Control Engineering in 2016 and his
Ph.D. in Automatica in 2019. In 2021-2024\, he has been a Postdoctoral Res
earcher (RTDa) in Automatic Control\, the field for which he received in 2
023 National Scientific Qualification for the position of Associate Profes
sor (ASN 09/G1 II fascia)\, at DIAG\, teaching in the courses of “Intellig
ent and Hybrid Control”\, “Process Identification and Control” and “Applic
azioni dell’Automatica”. Since 2016\, he has participated in sixteen EU an
d National funded research projects\, as well as several other applied fun
ded research studies. Among those projects\, A. Giuseppi has served severa
 l times as a local research unit coordinator\, Work-Package leader and/or
project coordinator and he is currently collaborating with the non-profit
research consortium CRAT as both researcher and project manager in the sco
pe of the Horizon Europe programme. Regarding technology transfer activiti
es\, in 2023\, A. Giuseppi was among the founding members of the Start-Up
“Automation Intelligence and Control”\, where he currently serves as Chief
Technology Officer (CTO). Among the awards he received are the third and
fourth editions of the “Minerva Award”\, recognized for his research activ
ity during his PhD studies and his first years as a researcher\, and the #
T-TeC2020 award\, issued by the company Telespazio spa for his applied res
earch in the aerospace field. He is currently an associate editor for the
IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering (T-ASE) and for th
e International Journal of Control\, Automation\, and Systems (IJCAS) edit
ed by Springer. His main research activities are in the fields of intellig
ent systems and network control\, where he has published more than 80 scie
ntific papers in international journals and conferences and is inventor of
  one issued patent.
