The ERC project NOTAE has the potential to make a significant contribution to the field of digital humanities, mainly in some potential issues that could be gener- ated by investigating typologies of documentary records: legal contracts, petitions, official letters, private letters, lists, authentic from relics, etc. By developing a dig- ital library metadata of documents from Late Antiquity to early medieval Europe and incorporating image processing techniques, the project aims to enhance our understanding of graphic symbols traced by individuals within these records. The use of a knowledge graph to integrate data with other authoritative sources and the development of an interactive symbol identification system could provide valuable insights into the origin, meanings, and functions of these symbols. Additionally, image processing techniques applied in the project, such as document pre-process- ing, image enhancement, graphic symbol identification and classification, have the potential to improve the quality and accessibility of these ancient documents for scholars and researchers. This work has the potential to greatly enhance our un- derstanding of medieval graphic symbols and could lead to new discoveries and advancements in the digital and computational humanities field.
