Fabio Furini obtained his Ph.D. in Control and Operations Research in 2011 from the University of Bologna. From 2011 to 2012, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Bologna. In the period 2012-2013, he held a post-doctoral fellowship at Université Paris-13 in France. From 2013 to 2019, he served as a Maitre de Conferences (equivalent to an associate professor) at Université Paris-Dauphine in France. From 2020 to 2021, he was a researcher at the National Research Council (CNR) at IASI-CNR in Rome. Since September 2021, he has been an associate professor at the Department of Computer Engineering, Control, and Management (DIAG). In 2017, Fabio Furini obtained the qualification of "Professeur des Universites" in France, and in 2019, he received the National Scientific Qualification as a Full Professor in Operations Research in Italy. Fabio Furini has also conducted numerous research periods at European and American universities, including Imperial College London and the University of Colorado.
From September 2013 to January 2020, Fabio Furini was involved in teaching activities at the Decision and Information Sciences Department (LAMSADE) of Université Paris-Dauphine, a French public university specializing in management sciences, mathematics, and computer science. He taught various courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the fields of mathematics and computer science. Additionally, he conducted advanced optimization courses at the doctoral school of computer science at Université Paris-Dauphine and taught doctoral courses on Operations Research topics at the University of Vienna, the University of Bologna, and the University of Parma. Fabio Furini is actively involved in supervising doctoral students and research projects related to thesis topics. He served as the supervisor for several doctoral theses, and from 2014 to 2020, he annually received the "Prime d’encadrement doctoral et de recherche" (award for scientific excellence and doctoral supervision, abbreviated as PEDR). This prestigious award is given to the top 15% of researchers in the French university system. Finally, Fabio Furini has been a principal investigator and has participated in various national and international research projects.
Fabio Furini conducts theoretical and methodological research on key topics in Combinatorial Optimization and Operations Research. He is particularly focused on developing exact algorithms based on decomposition and reformulation techniques for problems in integer linear programming. Fabio Furini has authored over 40 articles in international Operations Research journals, including Mathematical Programming, Operations Research, INFORMS Journal on Computing, European Journal of Operational Research, Computational Optimization and Applications, Operations Research Letters, Networks, Transportation Research Part B, and many others. He has also published several articles in proceedings of international conferences with peer review processes, such as IPCO, ISCO, INOC, CPAIOR, and many more. Fabio Furini has over 60 co-authors from European and American universities and a extensive network of international collaborations. Additionally, he serves on the editorial board of three prestigious international journals in the field: Omega, Annals of Operations Research, and Discrete Applied Mathematics.
